Power

I have been doing research on building home made wind generators and solar dishes.  Windmills can also be used to pump water from a well on the land.

Producing biodiesel on the farm would help in many ways.  It could be used in a diesel powered generator to help produce  extra electricity as well as used in diesel vehicles owned by the members.  Big time save money on our gas bills!!!  We could produce biodiesel from the old restaurant oil.

Food

An aquaponics unit is an excellent way to produce fish and vegetables in unity.  The system mentioned on the maps page takes up less than 1/8 and produces 800# of tilapia every 6 weeks.  Instead of the lettuce the idea I have here is to produce many types of vegetables at once.  Say 1/4 tomatoes, 1/4 cucumbers, 1/4 spinach, and the rest peppers.  This would be trial and error at first since so of the vegetables are better suited to water with a higher nutrient content. 

Of course there's the classic herb garden which could also include tea.

Chickens could be set up in cages without bottoms.  They are moved when they have cleaned and fertilized the area sufficiently.  The area is then used for a garden.  The chickens would be used to harvest eggs as well for the production of meat.

Possibly raise hogs for meat or goats for milk.  I don't have any first hand knowledge of this, only things I've read online.  There is a goat farm not far from my house.  I will talk to the owners to gain information.

Buildings

Searching for old buildings that owners wish to be removed is a great way to acquire supplies needed.  Often you actually have to pay to do the work, but the price is low for the materials you get!!
